{"id":5984,"date":"2019-12-16T09:27:09","date_gmt":"2019-12-16T15:27:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.elkhorn.lib.wi.us\/wordpress\/?page_id=5984"},"modified":"2019-12-19T14:14:52","modified_gmt":"2019-12-19T20:14:52","slug":"fine-free","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.elkhorn.lib.wi.us\/wordpress\/fine-free\/","title":{"rendered":"Fine Free"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>CHILDREN&#8217;S AND TEEN MATERIALS ARE FINE FREE AT THE MATHESON MEMORIAL LIBRARY<\/strong><\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><b>What?<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Effective January 2019, the Matheson Memorial Library no longer charges overdue fines for Children\u2019s and Young Adult (Teen) materials. \u00a0Existing fines on these items have been cleared.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Why?<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Monetary fines present an economic barrier to access of library materials and services, and eliminating fines increases library usage.<\/p>\n<p>We are committed to increasing reading and literacy, and combating the \u201csummer slump\u201d that causes students to lose skills between grades. \u00a0We have a comprehensive Summer Reading Program to encourage use of the library and reward children for reading.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Who?<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This policy change was approved unanimously by the Library Board of Trustees. \u00a0The contact for this change is Library Director Lisa Selje (<a href=\"mailto:lselje@elkhorn.lib.wi.us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">lselje@elkhorn.lib.wi.us<\/span><\/a>).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><b>Caveats<\/b><\/li>\n<li>Materials belonging to other libraries will still have overdue fines assessed.<\/li>\n<li>Fines are based on the material type, not the age of the borrower. \u00a0An adult checking out an Elephant &amp; Piggie book for their child would not be assessed overdue fines. \u00a0A child whose card is used to check out a James Patterson novel for their parent will be assessed overdue fines.<\/li>\n<li>All items that are damaged will still be charged for repair or replacement.<\/li>\n<li>All items that are long overdue will be assumed lost, and a bill will be sent for replacement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CHILDREN&#8217;S AND TEEN MATERIALS ARE FINE FREE AT THE MATHESON MEMORIAL LIBRARY What?
